Lewisburg, Ohio, Circle G Arena was the place to be Labor Day Weekend. The Team Tournament was a huge success with a large increase in the number of teams competing. The largest class was the Youth Team Walk-Trot with 63 entries and it was won by Emma Rodeffer who is from Lewisburg.
Saddles, awards and prizes were given away through out the weekend with a hog roast and exhibitor’s party held Sunday night prior to the Central State High Roller Pleasure Stakes and the Team Tournament Awards Ceremony.
Bob Wills showing On Chips Terms won the $1,000 first prize. It was a fun filled evening with the 11 entries each submitting a name for the judge’s pool. After the introduction of each exhibitor, four names were pulled to judge the class with the money paid on the average. The judges were then taken away while the calcutta was going on. Excitement was high, the calcutta pot was huge, with a $505 going to the winner.
Mark your calendars for Labor Day weekend 2009, Circle G Arena - Lewisburg, Ohio for Central State Horse Show Fall Round-Up.
Bob Wills and On Chips Terms Central State High Roller Pleasure Stakes Winner. Also Nikki Highly - Awards, Marty Jo Hays - Class Coordinator and Jenny & Sheri Fox - Calcutta Winners
The huge crowd looks on as Linda Westfall and Glee Wills made a gallant effort to get Bob bought in the High Roller Calcutta, but lost out to Sheri and Jenny Fox. Once Sheri saw Bob lope his horse across the pen, she knew that was the one she was going to buy. And she did to collect the $505 paycheck.

In Xenia, Ohio nestled at the end of a long country lane in an absolute picturesque setting you will find Millennium Quarters the home of Bob & Tammy Lickliter and UK Mito Boss. In the beginning and after attending Findlay College, Tammy wanted to be a horse trainer. Breeding Quarter Horses was the last thing on her mind. Little did she know she would breed and raise multiple World and Congress Champions.
It was during the Congress; Tammy called me at the conclusion of the Hunter Under Saddle Futurity. Hey Monn and Dawn had had a great ride and now everyone was waiting on the judge’s results. I could hear the excitement in Tammy’s voice as each judge’s card was read and she was telling me the results. Dawn Piper Baker and Hey Monn were doing very well, but it was the last judge’s card that would make the final decision. Over the phone I could hear the announcer but not make out what he was saying. There was silence…then with her voice cracking and fighting back the tears Tammy said “they won”. Now she has raised her first Congress winner. But it did not stop there; the team would add AQHA World Champion Amateur Hunter under Saddle to their credit.
After going Pro the very talented Dawn Piper Baker once again won the Congress Hunt Seat Futurity this time showing Decorated By Mito who was owned by Joanne and Tom Taylor. Finally people were starting to notice the ole’ boy. At age 23 UK Mito Boss will stand his 21st season in 2009. With only 110 foals on the ground UK has made the top 20 leading sires list numerous times. Tammy’s keen eye in her selection of brood mares has been quite an asset as well. Her latest up and coming star is Dancin On Mitos shown by Darla Lee also of Ohio. Check out their web site www.millenniumquarters.com.
Local Breeders Have a Positive Attitude
For Continued Success
“It was Love at First Sight” Tammy said. UK in only 33 shows went on to win 120 AQHA Points in 8 Events

It was a yearling sorrel colt, loping around the field with five others that caught their eye. Rob was hunting for a new show prospect. They took a video to their friends Mitch and Jennifer Leckey of Richmond, IN. After Mitch helped negotiate the deal, they brought the colt home.
Rob Miller and Shelly Burris from Lynn, IN had no plans of being in the breeding business, it just kinda happened.
Crashed The Party with his quiet temperament combined with his great movement turned out to be a great choice for Rob & Shelly. To date he has almost 200 Western Pleasure Points. In 2007 he was the AQHA High Point Western Pleasure Stallion in all divisions, and also carried Rob to the High Point Limited Rider Award in Western Pleasure.
Crash stood his first season in ’08 exceeding their goals for breeding outside mares. But their biggest compliment has been out of their own personal brood mare band and foal crop. All of the babies have been sold! They are looking forward to the 2009 Season.

Crash will be standing in Kentucky for ’09 and his fee will remain unchanged at $1000.00 which includes the chute/booking fee. His foals are KY eligible, AQHA IF, Go For The Gold & Just For Pleasure.

Congress Tidbits
For those of you who did not make it to the Congress, it was once again a site to behold. The quality of horses was fabulous. Kenny Lakins showing One Lazy Investment won the 2-Yr Old Western Pleasure Masters Class for owners Tanya & Steve Relander of Aledo, IL.
I heard the “old” Pole Gelding (almost 20 years old), Teddy Terrific, owned by the Ford family, made several 19 second pole runs at the Congress, showing he still has what it takes!
I received mixed reviews from the vendors and trailer salesmen during the show, with most having a positive and upbeat attitude. BUT, the booth with the action was most definitely Kathy Williams Tail Extensions. She relocated to a new spot with a larger area. She was always busy! With her tails and Kevin Garcia Originals, specializing in one of a kind designer show apparel, Kathy had a great Congress! She can be reached at: Kathywilliams811@hotmail.com OR 419-771-0037 - Mendon, OH.
The farrier tent at the Congress was a very busy place. A long wait to get under the tent where you could find more blacksmiths in one spot than you could possibly imagine.
“Termite” invited Larry Jones to assist him during the hectic Congress schedule. Termite, who lives in Oklahoma, shoes for several of the area Quarter Horse Trainers. Larry Jones lives in Danville, Indiana and can be reached at 317-442-1611.
Ohio 4H Helmet Requirements
It’s Official! Kimberly Cole, Extension Equine Specialist at Ohio State confirmed that effective January 2009:
“All youth age 19 and under, participating in any 4-H equestrian activity, are required to wear properly fitted protective headgear which meets or exceeds current ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials)/SEI (Safety Equipment Institute) standards with the chin harness securely fastened at all times while riding or driving an equine.
Now, I know what some of you are thinking....If you must wear a helmet, no more 4-H. Well....I’m here to tell you-”Just get over it and wear the helmet.” I’ve judged several 4H State Fair Horse Shows where helmets are required and from a judge’s point of view, I don’t even think about it.
Your local tack shop will most likely have the latest in fashion available, just go buy one.
Troxel helmets have a great selection...

To Band, Roach or Just Let'er Grow Long
This was a first in my judging journeys that I saw manes roached. From the inside of the pen looking out, it looks like a great band job. When we reversed - now I’m wondering, is it or isn’t it - Roached. From my point of view it did not matter to me. It looked fine.
Now it’s a complete different story to let it grow long. If you’re talented enough to do a great basket weave on the mane, that’s great, or if you have that awesome moving horse and the mane does not move at all, that’s even better. But, while watching several of the Western Pleasure classes at the Congress, I saw several long manes. Most were bouncing all over, I had to ask myself....
”What were they thinking???”
No Doubt Im Lazy and Mitch Leckey Win the 2 Yr Old Western Pleasure at the AQHA World Show
Mitch and Jennifer Leckey, who’s training facility is located in Richmond, Indiana, proved to be at the top of their game recently at the AQHA World Show in Oklahoma City, OK. AQHA Rule Change
Effective January 1, 2009
Conflict of Interest Rule for AQHA Judges will be changed to 3 months.
Rule 438 (c) (2) (F) in the AQHA Official Handbook will be changed to 3 months starting January 1, 2009.
No horse may be shown to a judge if that judge has been owner, trainer, agent in any capacity, or conditioner of that horse within the previous “3 Months”.
AQHA Introductory Level Approach at the Open Shows Gets the Green Light for 2009
Lots of controversy surrounds the new program that was started by AQHA in 2008. It allows AQHA members to receive full points on their Quarter Horses at the OPEN HORSE SHOWS. Only a few were approved in our area last year. One was New Castle, IN sponsored by John Carson and the Just For Fun Open Show Circuit.
AQHA requirements are at a minimum, although an AQHA approved judge is mandatory. The purpose is a new avenue to promote the showing of the American Quarter Horse, encourage memberships and reward the winners.
To give you an idea of how it works at the open show, if 20 entries are in the Open All Breed Western Pleasure and 10 of the AQHA horses enter the AQHA approved portion, points are paid back on the 10 entries for a 2-point class. In the barrels, if 50 entries are in the Open barrels and 20 of the AQHA horses enter the AQHA portion, it becomes a 4-point class. The AQHA results are placed in addition to the class results.
The Central States Horse Show Association is seeking AQHA Introductory Approval for their April 18-19, 2009 show at Circle G in Lewisburg, Ohio. Barrel and Poles will be Saturday night, Halter and Pleasure on Sunday.
